Thank you - I really appreciate the thorough response, that is extremely helpful.
What’s one specific point that you think is an outright lie or has been gaslighted away? The linked post addressed my personal concerns, but I want to see if there’s something I missed.
As with any EU company, the Swiss government can compel them to keep logs in the case of serious crime. You can use Tor as Proton recommends for that exact use case.
But by default Proton does not keep logs of IP addresses.
This might make you feel better, it did for me:
It’s for a streaming service.
The data stored on Bitwarden’s servers is completely encrypted though, which means a breach will not yield useful data, unlike the plain text storage for LastPass.
I have the ability to selfhost BW so I am interested in counterpoints.
Shortening the URL makes it possible to have significantly lower resolution QR codes, which is almost always more useful. Able to be rendered on more mediums, able to be read with lower quality readers.
You can use Immich Public Proxy to share the albums without having to expose your Immich instance. You can use all the normal Immich options - password protected albums, and links that expire, etc
You can de-DRM books purchased from the Kobo store, I do it frequently. Use Apprentice Alf tools in Calibre.
Ahh yes, Mullvad email and drive. Both great products!
It’s just what I use, as I’m specifically looking for something which only notifies when things aren’t able to report due to failure. Free for 20 checks which is more than enough for me.
If I were hosting it myself I wouldn’t know if my own notification system had failed (since it wouldn’t be able to report due to failure.)
For Podman you don’t need anything else other than Podman to monitor and restart failed containers:
podman-compose --podman-run-args='--health-on-failure=restart' up -d
For anything else I use https://healthchecks.io/
They use open source solutions for this, so you can spin up your own version if you want. It’s just Matrix with bridges.
You could use Beeper, which connects with Whatsapp without needing the app installed.
It’s like YNAB4. For those of us in that vintage it’s perfect. If you’re using the newer YNAB it might have missing features.
If it’s chunky as hella, you got stew there fella.
The “minimal” part is incorrect; it is a super complicated container. The number of moving parts don’t leave me with any confidence that I could keep it running or fix any issues going forwards.
Move your stuff from Gandi to Netim.com
Gandi got acquired and has done some very weird shit with pricing.
