It is dogshit compared to tiktok in the only functionality that matters - algorithmic matching of content to user.
Yeah ok it can stream a video cool. That’s not worth a can of beans in 2025 - can it give you content that you want to see when you want to see it?
The answer is a resounding no right now. Until it’s consistently serving up top notch pairings of content to user interest it wont stand a chance in the mainstream.
The proactive part is when they shut your account down and report it to the cops but yeah, the cooperating with interpol by providing data that they claimed they didn’t keep is damning.
They’ve been cooperating with law enforcement and handing data to the cops proactively since 2021.
Pay attention.
The writing was on the wall for proton for a while now
You’ve got a financial incentive to have someone watch 30 seconds of video - so ofc you use all the skeeziest shit straight out of the chum bucket days of the early internet.
It’s not about attention span: it’s about manipulation and money.
Not only that but this meme is not about TikTok - they don’t have votes, especially not a downvote. This is almost certainly about Reddit: the only major social media site that has downvoting.
Agreed.
But the entire point I’m making is there’s nothing wrong with the diamonds, the problem is with the method and the people profiting from it.
You were saying the diamonds were not fine by dint of origin. I’m saying let’s right the wrong and then use the diamonds.
The fuck you think “using their ill gotten gains for good” means?
I mean yeah: if we went and killed every person who benefits from conflict diamonds and closed all blood diamond mines why wouldn’t you be cool with using the resources? Their evil origin has little to do with their practical utility and if the original sin is expiated there’s no reason not to?
Like yeah conflict diamonds have basically no purpose because we can make diamonds cheaper and better in labs but in a situation where there are more practical uses (cobalt, LLMs) once we cleanse the land of the sinners why wouldn’t we use their ill gotten gains for good?
New devs: “wow a new sdk version”
Old devs: “Ah fuck I’ve gotta change how we request permissions again”
You might not notice it but us Android devs do.
Problem is: “Are either of us going” sounds right too.
Either is not always singular - Either the Red Sox or the Yankees are going to win tonight, not Either the Red Sox or the Yankees is going to win.
As a programmer my soft skills are as important as my hard skills. I’ve never worked on software alone: coordination, coherent and clear communication, collaboration. It’s all integral to the role.
I believe it is most of what has led to me being promoted up to staff eng level. I’m very good technically but so are many other engineers.
… Men are also ~20% larger than women on average. Is this count standardized by size of the person?
Tiktok is a company comparable in scale to Google. 130Bn in revenue last year.
Patreon is nowhere near the scale of YouTube. But I also think it’s the only viable solution to privacy and supporting creators.
That’s one of the reasons it was popularized - coal miner unions wearing red bandanas. But late 19th century usage appears to be sunburnt workers.
It’s impossible to do without exposing a private signing cert to everyone, yes. That’s the issue.
You can’t do asymmetric key signing anonymously and with a central issuer.
So either you have to just trust the assertions (0 security) or you have to have a trusted issuer (not anonymous)
A pseudonym issuer is a trusted issuer. There’s no way to do it otherwise. You have to trust someone to make this kind of system work.
Agreed that law enforcement should not be involved but the quote I posted was also from the article and it seems impossible.
Hey thanks for the correction - my mistake!
