I use to think about this a lot, and would constantly try to fix it - trying to look like I wasn’t just playing with my dick while doing it.

But now that I’m older I realise most people know clothes do this, and that it doesn’t really look like a boner anyway. And people generally aren’t looking at me wondering if I’ve got a boner, and they probably don’t care if I do unless I’m also staring at them or something. … So now I just worry about accidentally staring at people. (And my eyesight isn’t great, so it isn’t always easy to tell.)

  • I haven’t run into the problem of people not being able to use a mouse - but I’ve found that very few young people are able to tell if something is saved on their own computer or being accessed over the internet. Saving or downloading files is not something they are familiar with. (Which I suppose is because a lot of modern software makes cloud stuff so silky smooth that people don’t notice it.)

From what I can tell, this tankie stuff is bullshit. In the years I’ve been here, I’ve seen close to zero ‘tankie’ content from any of these supposedly tankie instances. There’s like maybe one or two people on those instances who might fit the description if you search for them. Meanwhile, literally every day there are posts spitting on these supposed tankie instances. (And actually, it’s again a very small number of people complaining - but they put their crap into cute memes to get traction).

I don’t like the idea of shouting slurs at entire instances. In my view, if you hate those instances so much - just block them. Problem solved. No need to spew hate all over lemmy.

  • Yeah. I’ve been interested in AI for most of my life. I’ve followed AI developments, and tinkered with a lot of AI stuff myself. I was pretty excited when ChatGPT first launched… but that excitement turned very sour after about a month.

I hate what the world has become. Money corrupts everything. We get the cheapest most exploitative version of every possible idea, and when it comes to AI - that’s pretty big net negative on the world.

  • I love how none of these comments account for fiber, something you won’t get from granulated sugar but which you will absolutely get from any actual fruit, which at least one of these yogurts actually references in its label.

It’s definitely true that eating fruit is a very healthy way to consume sugar. But the amount of actual fruit in those fruit yogurts is pitifully small. Advertising aside, it’s not like eating an fresh piece of fruit; and it is not why the yogurt has so much sugar it in.

Hey man, keep fighting the good fight. But know that you are among friends here. You are unlikely to find any Musk fans in this thread. And posts that smell of fascism will be downvoted if mild, and flat out deleted if strong.

And I think a lot of people here would also agree with you that continuing to use X is tacit support of some bad people and ideals. It’s just a matter of how hard-line you want to go with your guilt-by-association. Posting a screenshot of something that was posted on X is several steps removed from the source. It doesn’t link to the site, or give engagement to the site. So although your chain of reasoning to being against such posts is valid, I think perhaps attacking people for posting such screenshots risks a bit of ‘friendly fire’. I reckon your anti-fascist efforts are better spent elsewhere, where the actions are a bit more clear cut.

  • When writing my previous post I had started writing a list of suggested strategies; but I changed my mind about posting that. I’m not a member of Mozilla. I don’t know what particular challenges they face, and my expertise are not in not-for-profit fundraising. So although I do have ideas, I don’t really want to get into a trap of trying to defend my half-arse ideas against people picking them apart. It’s beside the point. The point is just that it is achievable, as evidenced by other organisations achieving it.

I will say though that they could at least just mention on the Firefox ‘successful update’ page that Firefox is supported by donations, and give a link. A lot of people really like Firefox; and I think that if Firefox asked for donations, they would get more donations.
