I’ve been self-hosting Actual as an alternative to YNAB and I’m completely sold. It’s really great, especially with bank account syncing activated. If you like envelope based budgeting I’d definitely go with Actual.

Lol. An e-Reader was actually one of the best purchases I’ve done. Started reading waaaay more than before. Also great that one can start digesting all those old out-of-copyright ebooks from like standardebooks.org, on a screen that resembles paper. I can never read a book on an ordinary screen.
I recommend MComix for reading on Linux. I only use it on the PC, but nonetheless it’s great.
Yeah if the library supports Overdrive, it’s possible. I’ve used it and it seemed to work fine.
If one doesn’t want telemetry etc being sent to Rakuten.
I think the person asked for e-ink device recommendations. Reading on an Android vs e-ink screen makes such a huge difference
No ads. Easy to buy. It you’re really concerned about privacy, just flash KOReader on it which is an alternative backend. The easier alternative is to never connect to the WiFi and manually transfer ePubs to the device through Calibre.
Buy a Kobo, never connect it to WiFi. Or flash KOReader on it. Either way much better than the alternatives.
If you offend the royal family you can get punished. There was a case some year back about a rapper that sought asylum in the Netherlands or Belgium I think, as he risked imprisonment in Spain due to his song lyrics criticizing the royal family. It’s crazy to me that one could seek asylum fron an EU country in a different EU country
I didn’t see anything about the implications of this on the EU and GDPR?
Category targets are available and are more flexible than YNAB, but it’s still in an experimental phase so it’s not fully integrated into the GUI. Check here: https://actualbudget.org/docs/experimental/goal-templates/ I’ve had zero problems so far though.
I love Actual. So, so good. I cancelled YNAB in favor and can’t ever think of going back. Aside from not having to pay $100 a year you’re also not supporting the Mormon Church (YNAB is a Mormon-run company).
Can someone please explain the process? This has been talked about forever, but nothing happens. Is something going to happen now? What’s the timeline?
Great tips. I appreciate the help!
Thanks. Are any of the apps that support it for desktop though? I mostly use desktop to browse
Great explanation, thank you! Hamachi brings back memories haha
Probably just me that’s confused. I thought Tailscale was similar to WireGuard but much easier to set up. So one connects to the services directly, and not just the general home network (like a VPN) where you then enter whatever address you need to access the service?
How’s the power draw on mobile devices?
At least there’s still the EU limiting the power of these companies, I guess…
Actual Budget is amazing!
