  • Not sure if this is what the previous user was getting at, but I think we should put it a different way: it’s not about whether or not the admins of a given site/instance refuse to host ads, but if they can meaningfully prevent ads from manifesting on their platform.

If there is money to extract from people, the advertisers will eventually arrive, invited or not.

On Reddit, for instance, I’d be willing to guess that the majority of ads were not formal ads, but rather astroturfed content from informal advertisers.

The only reason Lemmy is not seeing that (at least not so overtly) is because it’s still small and obscure. But security through obscurity is not really a winning strategy in the long run.

  • Seems like it’s some sort of digital intake form for a healthcare organization. The answer related to speaking with a doctor had me curious and googling “Epic healthcare” showed that company with matching logo as a healthcare software company.

May be helpful information to share with a doctor but understandable to say no for anyone who wants to confirm their doctor is LGBT+ friendly/trustworthy first before disclosing details.

Nah, fuck Biden’s and Harris’s handling of the situation. It was a disaster and needs to be called what it is.

But I think what you are suggesting is a disingenuous interpretation of what most people were saying during the US election. No one was suggesting that Biden/Harris were good for Palestine. Only that Trump would be much, much worse. And I feel like the events of the past few weeks have validated that fear, however horrifying that is to type out.

  • Not just US citizens, but specifically the Anglophone world as a whole. I’ve been to other English-speaking country where citizens of the USA are commonly referred to as “Americans” (when they’re not called Yanks) while the continents are called “The Americas”.

I also colloquially know that the name of the country in Japanese is simply “America” as well with its citizens just called “America-jin”

The relevant Wikipedia article seems to have some interesting insights as to which major world languages opt for which options, but it doesn’t seem to be an overly long list of examples.
