I wish more Americans had this much nuance in their views. You can recognize that we have it better than China and Africa while still fighting to make things better for everyone.
Just because things can be worse doesn’t mean we should settle for status quo. (Though I’ll admit status quo is looking pretty hot right now.)
Capitalism might be the mechanism, but it’s not the root cause. Any system will eventually be corrupted in the same way without constant vigilance.
The worship of capitalism certainly contributed. Capitalism needs heavy controls.
You don’t have to be smart, but you need a willingness to learn something that isn’t terribly important.
So, you know, consider that.

Same, you can verify by checking my reddit under the same name.

A Teen Hacker Showed It Could Be an Audio Bug0·1 month agoIt is nice to have the smoke detector communicate out its status. I sure like to know when my house is on fire, even if I’m not home. And a notification about a battery being low is much nicer than incessant beeping.
None of this replaces the primary local, physical functionality. You don’t depend on technology for the thing to work; it’s just an addition.

Yeah, but that’s really important context before people start cheering hacked elmo.
The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.
You’re right. It’s all right. Except the part where you think they can’t do this for long. How long did it take Madoff to get caught?
And there are enough barriers to competition to sustain this as long as they need. If anyone threatens them, they can just buy the competition.

Even if that is your opinion, why share it? What value does that provide to anyone, including yourself.
Shitting on things for no reason stopped being popular after the 90s.
Serinus@lemmy.worldto memes@lemmy.world•Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony2·5 months agoI’ve been enjoying Copilot quite a bit while developing, particularly for languages that I’m not familiar with. I’m not worried about it replacing me, because I very clearly use my experience and knowledge to guide it and to coax answers out of it. But when you tell it exactly what you want, it’s really nice to get answers back in the development language without needing to look up syntax.
“Give me some nice warning message css” was an easy, useful one.
It’s effectively a better Google search.
What if you didn’t realize there was a line and just went to the front?
This isn’t one you can dig yourself out of.
Isn’t this just an everyone thing?
