Afaik they don’t offer to use a custom domain.

I’m using Posteo and have no reason to complain about anything. It pretty much just works. Few bells and whistles.
There are tutorials on how to block secondary DNS servers when using Pihole. (The one I followed is in German but you can probably use your translator of choice.)
“subsidized” – TVs sold perfectly well before they were flooded with ads. Ads and selling user data just mean more money for CEOs. Always more, MORE, MOOORE PROFIT!

It wasn’t even the cheapest I could get. I rented a .de-domain from dogado.de, because I have made very good experiences with their customer services in the past.
Just yesterday I rented a tld for 2€/year and got it to update via my router’s ddns feature using deSEC. Other similar services are available and I think that many domain rental services even offer their own ddns-like update routes.
All in all it wasn’t that difficult, really. And imo an own tld is much nicer than having to rely on some subdomain of a ddns service.
So far (and yes, that is after less than one day) I definitely do recommend this.

My home server is a refurbished HP t630 thin client with 8 gb of ram and a 1tb SSD. I’m running various services, Nextcloud-AIO being one of them. I bought it for € 35 plus the SSD and a 4 gb ram extension. I definitely do recommend used hardware as it is usually cheaper, more powerful and more environmentally friendly than buying something new. Wouldn’t trust a used SSD though.
