Sure they have more money to donate, but most of population is not donating even a single cent even if they could. I do have savings which I am keeping to buy a decent flat. In theory I don’t necessarily must have it and I could settle with worse option and instead help someone who is worse than me, yet I am chosing to not do it.

We can also help by donating our time instead of money, go volunteer in soup kitchen or something like that. I don’t ever see myself doing that.

I donate maybe 15 eur per year through some store options (I either get 1 cent per each 1 eur I spend or I can transfer it to charity. Or with deposit system I can donate 10 cents per each can, bottle of beverage I buy instead of getting that deposit back). I don’t think I have explicitly transferred money otherwise. Relatively speaking I am just as bad as any billionaire when it comes to charity.

You could point fingers to almost anyone, this is not specific to extra wealthy. All of us here probably have it better than 70% of humanity, yet we choose to watch a movie instead of go help others. Dedicating a large part of your life in helping others is very admirable, but it’s not something you can expect everyone to do.

I know there is that HTML check in https://searx.space/ to see if search interface code is not heavily modified, but on server side anything could go on.

If requests are encrypted in a way that searxng does not see contents then it probably is not trivial to do, but there always is a possibility something clever could be done.

Aren’t all search queries available to whoever hosts an instance? In my eyes this is much worse to privacy and a much bigger risk unless you really know who is behind your chosen instance. I would trust some a company a bit more with safeguarding this information so it does not leak to some random guy.

Same setup here. Will check what’s the state with new Locus version, maybe it finally has something that will win me over. I do not mind it being subscription too much, makes sense for continuous development, depends how much it is though.

Could it be due to data quality?

I personally use specialized local app for public transportation that gets data directly from public transport provider (their official app is lacking), check if you have one in your region. Routes and timetables are always correct this way.

Storage is another issue. Will you store / seed random YT videos on your PC? You need to make sure you have enough copies so things are available and that there is adequate bandwidth so you do not wait multiple minutes for video to start.

Reliable video sharing sites with tons of content like YT / Vimeo makes sense only being centralized and they must have some kind of monetization like ads or subscriptions.

Industry standard solution that protects companies against malware is malware? Any proper AV will have unrestricted access to system. Only other option is for companies to completely lock down your device.
