  • Nah, I’m good. My comment wasn’t meant to be this sad woe is me rant. It was a critique of the meme since I did have friendships like that in my youth and just like in Friends, my friendgroup(s) split up when that period of our lives ended and we went on to start our adult lives.

It is a completely normal part of life. I don’t see it as a terrible thing.

I think the impermanence of life is one of the most difficult things to accept, but once you do, there is some beauty to it too.

I think it is or at least should be one of the biggest motivators to try and live in the now. I have been the most happy, when I try to live in the now and appreciate what I have right now. It takes a bit of practice but it is doable and it a great antidote to anxiety and depressive thoughts in my experience. You cannot live in the now all the time, but aiming toward it, is a good way to spend the limited time you have in this life.

    Big hugs to you.

Yeah, I think those memories are to be cherished. Your apartment setup back then genuinely sounds like a setup for a wholesome sitcom xD

It’s stuff like that, that makes me have very few regret from my 20s because I full on just wanted to make friends and throw myself into a bunch of scenarios with them while I had the chance and was still young.

When I hit 30, I was like “I’m ready to move forward”.

Still miss it sometimes. That closeness and the goofy shit we got up to sometimes. Also just the hanging out on those lazy evenings. Good times ❤️

I know it is popular to shit on Friends these years, but I think that it captures the growing up part of life pretty well as the show is basically about capturing a snapshot in time of a group of friends when they were the closest before adult life tore them apart. Because that is how the show ends. They all grow up, have adult responsibilities, different priorities and they all leave the apartment complex to start new lives away from one another.

In my 20s I had a group of friends for awhile and we would hang out in each other’s apartments all the time, sometimes we would sleep over at each other’s places and have breakfast together before heading to school. We would go on picnics and excursions together. All pile into the old, rusty car that one of us owned and drive somewhere.

We had a pub we liked to visit semi-regularly and we were pretty 50/50 men and women.

When we got our degrees, most of us packed up and left. We are now in our 30s and some have had kids in the meantime while most of us have grown apart. Some of us still keep in contact and hang out when our schedules permits it, but it isn’t like it was when we were in our 20s.

To me, Friends is an idealized version of the friends group stuff in your 20s. To me it isn’t as unrealistic as it’s being made out to be nowadays, but it is idealized.

I treasure the few years I got to have good friends and classmates that I loved to hang out with and treat as family. No matter how much time passes, whenever we get to meet up again, it is almost like no time has passed at all, and that is such a great feeling, even if we only get to see each other like once a year.

  • Personally, I don’t think GoT was good past season 4. The drop in quality writingwise was staggering and characters like Jaime were being progressively treated like a joke because they cut out significant parts of the plot from the books and flat out skipped a whole book because they got bored. Jaime’s arc in the show stopped being good after season 4. Just like everyone else’s. His arc in the books was way more interesting. He didn’t go back to cersei and go get Myrcella. He was put there leading sieges and shit while leaving cersei behind to her own devices.

It’s sad we will never get the rest of the books, but I’m sure George would have thought up something way better for Jaime than what they did to him in the show for the last four seasons.

Meanwhile, Zuko’s arc worked because they knew what they were doing with him from start to finish.

Regrettably no. I would imagine myself unhinge my jaw and eat all the trees and brushes we would pass. For whatever reason, kindergarten-me strongly believed that everything without a heartbeat looked very delicious and edible. Trees, clouds, snow, sand, windmills, brick buildings, flags, other cars, busses and the sun itself.

Grew out of that phase when I began school, but yeah. In a way I kinda miss being so young and new to living that you’re still figuring out what is and isn’t possible. The world seemed a lot more fun when you didn’t yet know the rules, lol.

  • Tbf, both sides have had a tendency to have some rapid people who control the public conversation, attacking anyone whose opinions vary even the slightest from theirs. I have had the displeasure of meeting a few of the leftwing ones on this platform and they tend to be entirely unself aware about how extreme and hostile they come off to others.

It’s the reason I ended up filtering out as much political content as possible. I left corporate social media because I wanted to get away from mindless hateful lunatics, but honestly, this place is just as unbearable as the rest of social media if you let it hit you unfiltered.

And I have also experienced being accused of being a fascist despite being very much center left. Some people are fucking insane on here. Just as insane as some of the crazy right-wingers I have had the displeasure of encountering.

Ideological fanatics suck no matter what side they are on because nuance repulses them and everything is a paranoid search for an enemy to attack. I want nothing to do with people who behave like that.

    Or be Danish:

American: I have been to Denmark! I love Denmark.

    Visits Copenhagen only 🤡

Especially offensive if you are a Jut like moi. You motherfuckers come here and think Copenhagen is Denmark, yet entirely ignore the rest of the country and especially Jutland where the vikings lived, Amleth’s grave is, where the king’s used to be crowned, the earliest Danish law that predates your frigging country by several centuries AND it is the place that Tolkien based Middle Earth and characters like Eowyn on. You could literally go visit the real Helms Deep, Isengard, Aros and Esgaroth and you could go visit the place of the legendary shieldmaiden Hervør who inspired Eowyn and in some ways Aragorn too.

But no no. cOpEnHaGen is Denmark. The one city in Denmark where no one speaks Danish, lol.

  • Tbf, the new movie was kinda mid. I know I watched it too, but I also forgot most of it afterwards. Not saying the original Blade Runner was the best movie ever made, but it’s at least memorable and I just assumed people would at least know what it was.

I don’t think people would think of replicant being associated with Blade Runner in a vacuum either, but when paired with a picture/a gif of Rachel, then I would assume people at least knew that it’s a blade runner reference.

I dunno. When I was young on the internet, there was a ton of popculture - especially American popculture - that I know nothing about because I’m not American, but I learned a bunch of it, as well as slang etc to get a basic understanding of the “language” people spoke on the internet. Which is 80% memes anyway.

I guess I find it weird that there are people out there who don’t do any kind of research to understand contexts in conversations online and end up assuming weird things when most contexts are a simple search away.

I also refuse to believe there are people who don’t know what Harry Potter is xD
