  • If you are not able to find a dumb TV, I recommend Google based TVs (GTVs). Unlike some Roku based TVs, GTVs will boot and work just fine even if you never configure their network access. If you do opt to enable network access on a GTV, you can set up static IP addresses on them, including PiHole as DNS.

My wife likes the convenience of a smart TV in her office so I DMZ’d it so that it has no access to our home network and it goes through a dedicated PiHole on a Pi Zero. Neither the Roku or LG TVs we had allowed for this, so I sold the RokuTV and I connected the LG to a thin client with a Bluetooth remote.

PS: Hisense makes a great 4K TV that goes to shit the moment you connect it to the network because of inadequate computing power, low memory, and bad code (memory leaks). If you don’t connect it to a network and use it as a dumb TV, it is great display for very little money.

  • You are confusing the Church of Satan (actual Satanists and mythology) with the Satanic Temple.

With unfortunate regularity - and much to our chagrin - The Satanic Temple is confused with an earlier organization, the Church of Satan, founded by Anton Szandor LaVey in the 1960s.

    The Satanic Temple is a non-theistic organization…

…the group views Satan neither as a supernatural being, nor a symbol of evil, but instead relies on the literary Satan as a symbol representing “the eternal rebel” against arbitrary authority and social norms, or as a metaphor to promote pragmatic skepticism, rational reciprocity, personal autonomy, and curiosity.

The Seven Fundamental Tenets of the Satanic Temple

    I

One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

    II

The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

    III

One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

    IV

The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.

    V

Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.

    VI

People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

    VII

Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

I will always be grateful to that hospital. I was expecting to owe $300k+, it turns out the total bill over $550k, but the hospital fought with the insurance company and got them to pay for most of it leaving me with a balance due of $10k. When I called to set up a payment plan, the lady on the other end said that they would forgive all but $996. I paid it and as soon as I hung up, I was sobbing. $550,000. What is the point of surviving if you are going to spend the rest of your life slaving away to pay off you’re debt.

I am 51 now but in 2018, while still in my forties, I had to have multiple major emergency heart surgeries. I was hospitalized for a week and bed ridden for about a month altogether. During that time, all I had for entertainment was my PS Vita. I decided to buy and play Persona 4 Golden blind and I spent those weeks drifting in and out of consciousness while making friends, fighting monsters and hanging out with high school students in that make believe world instead of focusing on my near death experience or the possibility of financial ruin thanks to medical bills.

I will never judge anybody that is moved by or comforted by things like anime or JRPGs. I get it.
