Chicle isn’t the only natural chewable by the way. Many resins can be jawed on for a while, I’m very fond of chewing mastic resin. Mastic comes from Greece, and has a piney taste when you’ve chewed it for a while.

I really enjoyed it, no crashes on Steam Deck but it runs pretty poorly and yeah, occasional visual bugs.

I visited Ecuador several years ago and got to chew on coca leaves, but they also had coca leaf candies! Both were excellent for helping with altitude sickness, and I really enjoyed the flavor. Had a gentle mood lifting effect too, like a nice cup of tea, but in the form of chewed cud, haha.

Super Castlevania 4 is the best of those early ones. Rondo is pretty good also but very hard. People find charms in the first 3 but they’re a bit rough.

It’s a microcosm for science denial or misunderstanding of all kinds. Vegan cats and antivax may not seem related but the underlying misinformation is not dissimilar.

I tried following up on the vegan cat research being posted and it was very difficult to get a solid answer. There are multiple brands of vegan cat food marketed and sold, and it isn’t outrageous to believe that our industrial society could find an ethical way to source the necessary nutrients and enrich the cat food.

But also there’s very few studies that test the claims of the vegan cat food. What few meta-analysis exist, and anecdotes online, would suggest that all those foods lack certain critical nutrients for long-term feline health. But the anecdotes are drowned out by well-intentioned people who want to believe it works, and the studies are small, rare, hard to read, and locked behind paywalls.

Oh you have no idea how deep my paranoia on this goes! We’ve been implementing Dynamics 365 at my office, MS made software that manages your entire business from the accounting ledgers on out. Copilot AI is everywhere in it, trying to encourage you to teach it how to do things.

MS wants to offer the next generation of knowledge worker. No more accountants, no more senior managers of inventories and all those many miscellaneous titles it takes to run a company. Certainly no more technical support. AI is going to do it all. MS wants to tell every business how to do business.

I think it’s important for developers to stay active within the community and try to understand how the community uses the tools available and what additions or changes are desired or would be beneficial. Obviously people disagree about what those things are at times, but I think with patience and empathy we can iterate ideas and get to better places.

I see people posting more and more news on Lemmy and I enjoy that, but it does make the need for tools that fight disinformation. Maybe that’s the source-checker bot (feels like a stopgap to me) or maybe that’s a combination of new ui and api features that draw from Twitter’s community fact-checking and how some instances are use bias-checkers.

Moderation tools are always in need of improvement too.

Also you are correct that asbestos is dangerous when you breathe it in, but it’s banned widely because it’s brittle and very easy to get particles of it into the air through accidental damage.
