BackgrndNoize@lemmy.worldto memes@lemmy.world•Probably obvious to most of you, bit of an "ohhh" moment for me12·4 days agoPretty much most children’s cartoons were designed just to sell toys and other merchandise, and of course ads in between the show to get kids interested in pestering their parents into buying the advertised products. I tried watching a Chip and Dale episode on Disney + recently out of nostalgia, I used to love that show as a kid, but now I realized how simplistic and nonsensical the plot was, cause it’s designed to be consumed by children and they ain’t exactly media literate yet lol
I have darker skin color so I avoid cops like the plague. I was walking home at 1 am in the rain and a single cop drove up to me and asked me where I was going and I wanted a lift, I picked a random apartment complex and said that’s my home and just pretended to go in there till he drove away
This was peak internet, take me back
And how does a higher quality make any difference here. If you’re so concerned about the quality of “meme” posts on Lemmy, maybe you should introspect on what you are doing with your life
Yeah I mentioned it in my original comment, nice movies
I’ve had people in cars shout at me as they pass by and I’ve had a cop drive up to me and ask me where I’m headed, dependes from location to location, but walking is just seen as an odd activity in this country for some reason lol
Yeah separating commercial and residential zones so much creates such dead zones, and a huge car dependency. Where I grew up everything I needed was in walking distance, from the optometrist to the bodega, never needed a car and my neighborhood felt so lively.
There’s something deeply unsettling about American suburbs, rows of identical houses, and not a human being in sight, no noises, just this artifical maze, my Uber took a detour though one once and I looked up from my phone and saw that I didn’t realize where I am and it all looked so identical it was disorienting and I freaked out a bit, had to open Google maps to realize where I was. The movie Vivarium captures this feeling well. Why don’t y’all get out and go for a walk and talk to your neighbors.
I can put a degoogled OS on an android phone to keep Google at bay, cause I bought and own the device. The iOS pros you mentioned are just apps, not even specifically tied to the OS itself, and most of them only work well within the apple ecosystem and purposefully don’t work at all or work poorly with non apple devices. Android has tons of apps that do the same thing, or even better and they work with every device and OS regardless of who made them. So far the only iOS specific things I liked are the dynamic island functionality, the custom focus modes with customizable home and lock screens, the activity usage locks and analytics, most of these I can replicate on Android as well when I move to it.
What’s a pro of the iOS app based file system, it’s never not been an artificially created frustrating and limiting experience for me. I had to print a bunch of documents that were scattered across a couple of folders on my gDrive recently and I thought I’ll download them to my iPhone, move the necessary docs from the sub folders into a single folder that I’ll zip and send to the printing service email, the amount of frustration I had to deal with just to do something simple like that made me want to chuck my phone into a wall. Also one time I had to send a single pdf from my android phone to my sister’s iphone, in a place with no cell signal or wifi. and that to was a god awful experience, purposefully designed so by apple so people stick to only using airdrop and Icloud. I had to basically setup a file server + wifi Hotspot on my android phone to be able to transfer that one file and because it was an android I could actually do that in the first place. So many apps I used to use can’t work on iphones cause apple just won’t allow it.
Use a system indexer like Listary or Everything and you never have to worry about finding a file ever again, just type its name and it’ll be the first result
Pretty sure you’ve never used an Android, iPhone file managemt is locked down and dumbed down garbage, made so to make people more dependent on paying for and using the app store apps, without understanding the underlying system at all, and the primary reason I’m moving back to Android. Can’t let some shit tech company dictate how I use my own devices file system, or what apps I can and can’t install on it.
Alt Shift X YouTube channel made an amazing video covering this book and since the book is mostly images, just watching this video is enough to understand the entire story.
I hear a ice cream van go around my neighborhood but I don’t know where the truck stops, pain
Have you read the things United Healthcare has done and continues to do to people in the name of profit, and even if that’s not enough, if your life or the life of someone you cared about got ruined because of the decisions of your insurance providers, that could be motivation enough for someone.
This is also why I prefer the San Andreas era GTA, the graphics are cartoony and the gameplay is fun as hell, the hyper realism style they moved to with GTA 5 is so boring and lifeless
A - it’s a science fiction TV show, suspending your disbelief is part of consuming any fictional content
B - places in UK have difference accents over small geographic distances, a vertically built society with limitations on movement could reasonably lead to accent variations across the floors
I’m surprised no one mentioned the literal gay Satan from powerpuff girls lol
